Through Swiss Re's Carbon Service, employees have a unique opportunity to help the carbon removal industry scale up while compensating personal emissions.
Employees are invited to contribute towards Swiss Re's mix of high-quality carbon removal and avoidance certificates including everything from Climework's direct air capture to biochar and clean-water emissions reduction projects. Swiss Re also contributes to compensate our operational emissions at the same mix and price. For every 134 USD contributed 1 tonne of emissions are compensated.
To limit global warming to 1.5°C and prevent the worst impacts of climate change, the world must reach net-zero emissions by 2050. This requires first and foremost deep emissions reductions, complemented by the removal of carbon from the atmosphere and its permanent storage. However, carbon removal is still too expensive to deploy at the scale we will need.
The NetZeroYou2 Programme invites you to "do your best" to reduce your carbon footprint as much as possible, and to "remove the rest" by contributing to the purchase of carbon certificates and long-term carbon removal projects through the Carbon Service. Your contribution will help the carbon removal technologies scale up and decrease in cost to help the world get to net zero.
What is carbon removal?
It is the process of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and permanently storing it. The latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report emphasises that due to a lack of progress on emissions reduction, limiting global temperature rise to 1.5⁰C will now be impossible without carbon removal solutions.
